A Second Chance That Changed Everything

Twenty-nine years ago, my life changed forever.

I received a heart transplant in my 20’s (due to a congenital heart defect) that didn’t just save my life 

it reshaped the way I see people, purpose, and connection.

During those long months in the hospital, I was surrounded by exceptional healthcare professionals — nurses, physicians, techs, specialists, and support teams — people who cared for me with compassion, patience, and a level of humanity I will never forget.

They weren’t just treating me.

They were showing up for me — physically, emotionally, spiritually — day after day.

And that experience planted something deep inside me.

A lifelong respect.

A gratitude that would never fade.

A connection to the world of healthcare that became a defining part of who I am.

A Life Shaped by Healthcare

For the past twenty-eight years, I’ve worked in healthcare myself.

I’ve seen:

• The sacrifices
• The 12-hour shifts
• The back-to-back patients
• The emotional load
• The burnout
• The humor that keeps people going
• The silent moments no one outside the profession ever sees

I’ve watched brilliant, caring people give everything to their careers — often at the cost of their personal lives, social lives, and ability to meaningfully connect with someone who truly understands their journey.
